The original highball cocktail originates from Sausalito in the early 1970s, after an earlier one created in the 1930s in Phoenix. Seeing as Papi enjoys his martinis, it only made sense to modify this classic into a pre-dinner sized, California-inspired version of the original.

Papi's Tequila Sunrise Martini

Materials

  • 1 ½ ounces Tequila
  • 1 ounce Triple Sec
  • ½ ounce Sweet and Sour Mix
  • 2 ounces Orange Juice
  • ¼ ounce Grenadine

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients except Grenadine to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well.
  • Pour and strain into a chilled martini glass.
  • Add two ice cubes.
  • Drizzle the Grenadine along the inside of the glass. It will sink to the bottom.
  • Garnish with an orange slice or cherry if desired.
  • After cocktail hour, get Papi to wash the glasses.
