Hommos (or Hummus) is a Middle Eastern dip, spread, or savory dish made from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, lemon juice, and garlic. The standard garnish in the Middle East includes olive oil, a few whole chickpeas, parsley, and paprika. It is usually eaten as a dip, with pita bread.
Hommos
Hommos Bi Tahina
Yield: 4 people
Materials
- 1 can chick peas 19 oz size
 - 1 clove garlic mashed
 - ½ tsp salt
 - 4 tbsp sesame seed paste (tahina)
 - ¼ cup lemon juice or juice from 2 lemons
 - ¼ cup water
 - 1 tsp paprika
 - 1 tbsp parsley chopped
 - 1 tbsp olive oil optional
 - 2 tbsp pine nuts (lightly browned) optional
 
Instructions
- Drain and rinse chick peas and place in food processor or blender
 - Add mashed garlic, tahina, lemon juice, salt and water. Mix well until texture is smooth.
 - Serve on a platter and garnish with paprika, oil, parsley and/or pine nuts.
 
Notes
Variations:
- Two Tbsp. yogurt can be added for a creamy texture
 - Add Basic Meat Filling on top
 - Sprinkle 1 Tbsp. of slightly browned (and cooled) sesame seeds on top.
