Hommos (or Hummus) is a Middle Eastern dip, spread, or savory dish made from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, lemon juice, and garlic. The standard garnish in the Middle East includes olive oil, a few whole chickpeas, parsley, and paprika. It is usually eaten as a dip, with pita bread.

Hommos

Hommos Bi Tahina
Course: Side Dish, Snack
Cuisine: Mediterranean
Yield: 4 people

Materials

  • 1 can chick peas 19 oz size
  • 1 clove garlic mashed
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp sesame seed paste (tahina)
  • ¼ cup lemon juice or juice from 2 lemons
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp parsley chopped
  • 1 tbsp olive oil optional
  • 2 tbsp pine nuts (lightly browned) optional

Instructions

  • Drain and rinse chick peas and place in food processor or blender
  • Add mashed garlic, tahina, lemon juice, salt and water. Mix well until texture is smooth.
  • Serve on a platter and garnish with paprika, oil, parsley and/or pine nuts.

Notes

Variations:
  1. Two Tbsp. yogurt can be added for a creamy texture
  2. Add Basic Meat Filling on top 
  3. Sprinkle 1 Tbsp. of slightly browned (and cooled) sesame seeds on top.
